Three Questions For… Jon Foye, Head of Art, BWM Dentsu Sydney

1. What are you most excited about that’s happening in the industry today?

I love that the best ideas now are more than just ads. Look at ‘Brewtroleum’ and ‘Meet Graham’ recently  for example. Genius ideas that live beyond the traditional mediums with real problem solving and emotional engagement at the heart. This type of thinking is the new benchmark and that’s exciting.

 2. And if you could change one thing about the industry, what would it be?

I hate all the negative commentary online. It’s easy to hide behind a keyboard and anonymously slam other people’s ideas. But we’re meant to celebrate creativity, not destroy it. We all know how hard it is to get an idea up and keep it intact. Be critical by all means, that’s essential, but be constructive and say well done every now and then.

 3. What is your favourite ad of all time and why?

It’s hard to beat the Carlton Draught ‘Big Ad’. The best beer ad ever. Epic in every sense, it totally changed the way beer advertising was done. A game changer for its time and hilarious to boot.
